Measure of Daily Life

Recently deceased hoisted by adults and society
To cumulus heaven, adding
Family myths and hard-earned lessons
To guide our daily lives.

Good and evil tally
Yet change with eon’s sticks.
Objectivity praises the absolute
Subjectivity recognizes individual limits.

Herodotus allows but few
Into the halls of history.
The great, the interesting, the evil
Live eternally.
Magnificent deeds and horrid crimes
Form the measure of daily life
Controlling us as Zeus guided the Greeks.
