Up a Steep Hill

As I rode my bike up the steep hill, I kept focused on the top of the hill—to the distance I had to achieve. As I climbed the hill, I always got winded. I needed to stop for a break, before I reached the summit.

Then I tried something new. As I ascended the hill, instead of looking at the summit, I kept my gaze close—to the concrete sidewalk immediately in front of the bike.

My new focus. Immediately in front, like a cheetah chasing prey

I pedaled onward. Before I needed to stop for a break, I was at the top of the hill.

Anticipation of the effort was worse than the effort itself.
